We were catering for a very important event on Sunday it was for the Army Barracks close to where we live the Corporal was retiring from the Army and the Soldiers wanted to give him a good send off! We set up our machines in the huge yard and we wasted no time we put the pig onto cook and then sorted out the salads, dips and side dishes the Soldiers and the Corporal were out on exercise and this was a surprise party he knew nothing about it and it was all organised by his superiors, the officers cam over and had a good chat we explained to them what we were cooking and they were very intrigued and especially loved the pig and a few had their photographs taken with the pig which we are used to know as it happens a lot! We set out the plates and filled the glasses just as we seen the van pull in with all the Soldiers and the star of the show him self the corporal he looked a bit bewildered when he saw us and all the officers and then he caught sight of the huge banner which said’ Happy Retirement” then the penny dropped! He came over laughing and shaking his head and the Soldiers were famished and wasted no time in getting something to eat! The Officers said a few words and said what an incredible asset he was to the Army and how he would be missed it was a very humbling speech and one that made us all realise how important our armed forces are and how proud we are of them everyone chatted ate and drank and had fun and one of the solders even belted out a tune on his guitar what a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon we thought as we waved them all good bye we are lucky to have our good Soldiers serving the country well each and everyone a credit and for us it really was an honour catering for such amazing people we really felt proud t be British…
