Last week we catered for the lovely Steven’s leaving party, who was retiring for 35 years of service at a popular hotel in the area of Girton. The beautiful hotel was of course the perfect venue to host such a celebration and Steven had invited ourselves at Hog Roast Girton to provide some of his favourite foods for himself and his guests to enjoy at his party. When meeting with Steven prior to the party to discuss the menu and all things catering related, he told us that his all time favourite food was left over roast pork meat made into a scrumptious sandwich and that he hoped we would be able to cook up a more formal and professional version of this! He had certainly contacted the right guys and we could not wait to get started on creating this delicious food for Steven.
As always, we prepare all of our food on site, and brilliantly this very venue had an amazingly well ventilated area inside which enabled us to cook our food at the heart of the event. We arrived several hours earlier than guests were due to arrive, to prepare our Hog Roast Girton meat, condiments and side dishes to be enjoyed by hungry guests later in the evening. We began by setting up our spit roasting equipment, slowly roasting our free range pig over open flames, turning it carefully for several hours. We find that this is the very best way to achieve perfect meat everytime – succulent, fall off the bone pork meat inside and crispy yet melt in the mouth crackling on the outside with plenty of sea salt. Delicious, and yet so simple! Together with our chefs we prepared fresh and zesty apple sauce and warming sage and onion stuffing, after all it wouldn’t be the same eating pork without them! The meat and condiments were to be served with freshly baked bread rolls, however Steven had requested that we also provided a couple of potato options for his guests as side dishes. This was no problem, and we cooked golden jacket potato wedges and herby new potatoes to accompany the tasty pork sandwiches.
With so much work to do, the day quickly flew by and guests were arriving to the party armed with balloons, cards and leaving presents for Steven before they tucked in to a delicious buffet selection of all of the great food we had prepared for them. Steven was particularly impressed without our tender meat and even claimed it was the best roast pork sandwich he had eaten! Now if that isn’t a success, what is? Everyone at Hog Roast Girton wishes Steven all the best with his retirement!
