With the majority of football fans managing to put their difference aside for one evening and support Liverpool in the Champions League Final on Saturday, the language school who contacted us were hoping to see Real Madrid become the Kings of Europe! The 20 students had been studying Spanish together for the past year at a local language school, and thanks to their brilliant teachers, they had become just as interested in Spanish culture as they were in the language itself. The teachers and events co-ordinator decided to throw a party at the language school and watch the match on the big screen normally reserved for their monthly Spanish film night, so they could all cheer on their new favourite football club together! With minimal cooking facilities on the premises and nobody volunteering to cook up a giant vat of paella at home, they decided to get outside caterers in. They also decided against going with a Spanish themed menu; since their students had become such loyal followers of Spanish culture, they wanted to give recognition to something the native Spanish tutors loved about living in England: hearty, home grown food! So, they called upon Hog Roast Kimbolton to deliver the best example of British cuisine, whilst everyone was enjoying the best example of Spanish football on the big screen!
Both the English students and Spanish tutors were thrilled with Hog Roast Kimbolton’s menu options and they chose one of the traditional slow-cooked hog roasts that we are so renowned for, with some classic side salads using only the best of locally-sourced ingredients. They also loved the fact that we could cook everything fresh in the minimalist language school kitchen because we are totally self-sufficient and bring everything with us! There were oohs and aahs galore from the screening room, especially when Bale came off the bench and scored the 2 goals that secured victory for Real. Luckily for our diners, our chef has much safer hands than Liverpool’s goalie, and he was deftly carving the perfectly cooked pork as the final whistle blew! It may not have been a great day for Anglo-Spanish relations on the pitch, but it certainly was at the language school. Everyone had a great night and Hog Roast Kimbolton got a massive ‘gracias’ for providing such delicious food!
