It was a rare treat for the team at Hog Roast Whittlesey this Easter, as they found themselves serving their artistic cuisine beneath the baking sun on glorious golden sands as the waves crashed against the shore. It all started when we were contacted by Sandra, a local business woman who has just started running children’s activities on the beach, such as donkey riding, trampolining and face painting. As the weather recently has been exceptional in the UK, Sandra knew the beach would be packed and she decided she’d hire the team at Hog Roast Whittlesey to provide food for all her paying customers.
As we were providing free food for all those who had paid for Sandra’s activities we set about devising a menu that would go down well at the beach. We opted for our classic Pigs in Buns – Hog Roast served in crusty bread rolls with a selection of sauces – as they are easy to eat with your hands and on the move.
With the sun beaming, the beach was packed by ten o’clock in the morning, by which time, the team at Hog Roast Whittlesey had already set up and were half way through the slow cooking process for the Hog. Sandra had also been on site for a number of hours to get ready, and by twelve noon, we were both open for business. We had two separate machines in operation to cover the numbers and to be able to serve those who had paid for Sandra’s activities within a short time frame. Both were under the protection of our trusty gazebos, but this time it was to provide shade to our chefs rather than protection from the rain and the cold!
Both chefs enjoyed working in their summer clothes (a necessity due to the heat!) and serving the happy beach goers who all thoroughly enjoyed the food. At the end of the day when the beach was emptying, and the tide sweeping in, there was nothing left to do for team at Hog Roast Whittlesey but tidy away their mess and dispose of any waste offsite.
