Food is one of the comforts we can all relate to: everyone has a meal they eat when they feel upset, and whether it be ice-cream, chocolate, pie or something simpler, like a hot and juicy pork roll, the term ‘comfort food’ exists for a reason. That’s because food fuels us. It is capable of bringing us together like nothing else – after all, what brings a family closer than sitting down together and eating a home-cooked dinner?
Food is such a crucial part of life, that it is no surprise it can bring us together so well – even in the face of death. The team at Hog Roast Cottenham had a rather more sombre day than usual, when we were asked to cater at a wake by Lydia – her husband, Pete, had tragically passed away a week prior, following a long and harrowing battle with cancer.
Pete had been a long-time fan of our catering services, so it was difficult news to hear: we had served many an event at his behest, and grown accustomed to his cheery face and insatiable appetite over the years – so, of course, we were more than happy to offer our services to Lydia, in the hopes that by sharing his favourite food, the recently bereaved might feel closer to him.
We were told it was a beautiful service, and there was not a single dry eye when the group arrived at the hall for the wake. The Hog Roast Cottenham team were set up and ready to help in the best way they know how: by offering the same selection of food that Pete had fallen in love with himself since we got to know him all those years ago.
Although nothing can truly heal the hole left by losing such a great man, such a pillar in the local community, we here at Hog Roast TOWNCottenham hope that by allowing everyone to taste what he loved so well, we brought everyone a little closer to Pete – even now that he’s gone.
