Our village and civil parish of Linton, also a dormitory village of Cambridge, has a long and interesting history that goes back not only to times of the Domesday Book but also thousands of years back to Neolithic times. We’re not only famed for being featured in Steve Coogan’s ‘I’m Alan Partridge’, where the titular character stayed at the (fictional) Linton Travel Tavern, having stated that it was equidistant between Norwich and London. In real life, there were Roman and Saxon settlements here in our rural Cambridgeshire village which borders with Essex and between 1917 and 1919, it was the location of a German prisoner of war camp.
Said to be the only English village that has both a vineyard and a zoo (the former, at Chilford Hall, is one of the oldest established vineyards in the country and the latter features rare, exotic and endangered species), Linton has long been a lovely place to visit as well as one that residents enjoy year-round. In terms of position, we’re within easy reach of the M11, A11 and A14 and only 40 minutes from Stansted Airport, with Cambridge itself only 12 miles away, and when it comes to eating out here, there are some delights on offer, like The Dog & Duck, with its riverside setting, the CAMRA award-winning Crown Inn and Linton Tandoori.
