Hog Roast Melbourn often provides tasty food for all kinds of parties and events, and sometimes we are asked to cater more than once in one day – for example, for a wedding breakfast and then dinner. Recently, we were asked to cater twice in a day for a Defence industry exhibition, however, where we would be serving breakfast for 50 guests and then lunch for 50, too.
DVD2018 is an exhibition staged at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, spread across two days. In this instance, DVD means Defence Vehicle Dynamics, and this event enables engagement between the Defence industry, Army HQ staff, DE&S Delivery Teams, and other Defence community users of Land Equipment. We were asked to serve at the Thales pavilion at this event on one of the days, where our ex-military chef Rob would feel right at home being back with the troops!
For breakfast, we would be preparing, cooking and serving bacon and sausage rolls, as well as a vegetarian option of veggie sausages in rolls. Hog Roast Melbourn is dedicated to ensuring that all of our customers and their guests are able to eat and enjoy our food, so we have various options to cover dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free. We also know that not all carnivores want to eat a hog, so we have lots of meaty alternatives too.
For lunch at this event, we would be serving our highly popular Menu 1 of pigs in buns, and the hog would have to cook for a few hours until juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside, so we would be preparing this nice and early and setting it cooking well before the early afternoon service. We were also asked for a mixed salad, our homemade coleslaw, new potatoes, and vegetarian skewers, so there would be plenty to go round.
By 9am on the day of the event, Hog Roast Melbourn Chef Rob and his team were kept busy serving plenty of rolls with either gourmet sausages or bacon strips, and these were clearly enjoyed as much as the vegetarian rolls were. By lunchtime, the hog had cooked beautifully, and it was time to carve away, ready for the guests to return.
