Hog Roast Sawtry – Picnic at the Pub!

Here at Hog Roast Sawtry we love to cater at any and all events, the more unique the better! We have had fancy dress themed parties, murder mystery dinners and even catered at festivals and dance competitions! This weekend we were delighted to be asked to cater at one of the local Sawtry pubs, annual family picnic.

Hog Roast Sawtry

The pub usually hosted a picnic every year to welcome in spring and to get their customers to come and join the community in a lovely spring walk followed by a picnic. Traditionally the walk would be up the hill that was situated just behind the pub and then down through the valley before ending up back in the beer garden. In the past the pub had catered the picnic themselves in their own kitchen but over the years the event had got bigger and bigger with more and more families attending and unfortunately the pubs chef, Tony, was unable to cater for them all single handedly. Which is where Hog Roast Sawtry comes in!

We had been asked to provide a menu of our signature Hog Roast Sawtry rolls for the picnic to accompany Tony’s selection of salads and sides. Our rolls consist of slow roasted pork that we cook for several hours before serving so that it makes only the most succulent sandwiches. We top this with layers of crispy crackling and a dollop of tangy apple sauce. With a spoonful of sage and onion stuffing the roll is complete. Of course the pub would be providing the drinks!

With the walk complete a hoard of hungry families descended on our Hog Roast Sawtry picnic. It was easy to sympathise with Tony and we have no idea how he would have managed to cater by himself as there were almost three hundred people all gathered on the pubs grounds. what a lovely event!
