Hog Roast Burwell often caters birthday celebrations, though we are actually suitable for any kind of special occasion that you might be organising. For Jude’s 45th birthday, he had asked us to provide the food for thirty guests, with a traditional centrepiece hog roast for most people, but he also asked us if we could cook a vegetarian dish on the day too. We’ve spent many years ensuring that all of our customers’ guests can enjoy our food, not least by catering dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free, so we gave Jude all of our possible options and he went back to his veggie guest to discuss them.
When Jude called us back, he told us that he was very impressed that we had multiple options for guests on special diets, and that his vegetarian guest wanted to try our veggie skewer wraps, which feature chunks of halloumi and seasonal veg grilled to perfection and served in wraps with our Tzatziki dip. The hog itself we would cook for several hours before carving off the crackling and meat in order to make the rest of the guests lots of pigs in buns (also known as hog roast rolls).
On the day of Jude’s birthday party, our Hog Roast Burwell chef and catering assistants arrived at the venue early in the afternoon and set up our equipment. We were catering at a local community hall, cooking the food outside in the sunshine and then serving it buffet-style to the guests who would then take it inside to eat at the tables. Once the gazebo was up to shade us from the sun, we set up the serving tables and turned the hog roast machine on at a low temperature and our chef began to prepare the local meat from scratch.
Soon after, our Hog Roast Burwell speciality was sizzling in its own juices, filling the surroundings with amazing aromas and looking quite the spectacle. Several hours later, while the skewers were finishing off, our team prepared the ingredients for the pigs in buns – filling dishes with our own recipe apple sauce and sage and onion stuffing, slicing the bread rolls and arranging them with wraps and then finally, it was time to carve the meat, dish up the skewers, and serve up some truly lovely grub.
