With the combination of beautiful buildings, charming cobbled street corners and dusty bookstores, it’s hard not to fall in love with the city of Cambridge. Although the city may be small, 40.7 km², it is packed with pubs, pop-up food markets and of course the River Cam. The River Cam is the perfect way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the centre, and why not try out punting whilst you’re there. Punting is a sport in which people propel a long boat by pushing a pole down onto the river bed, if this sounds too difficult there’s always the punting tour which allows you to spend a couple of hours mastering the skill!
Bookworms, politicians and studious individuals have walked the streets of Cambridge since time can remember, so when in the city you must check out the university, museums and bookstores. There are a plethora of museums to choose from, from art and antiques at the Fitzwilliam Museum, history books at the Imperial War Museum to the beautiful, natural Cambridge University Botanical Garden. Cambridge is famous for its eels, celery and sausage, here at Hog Roast Wisbech we don’t just do Hog Roasts, why not add sausages to your menu? Fidget Pie, a dish created in Huntingdon contains bacon or ham and apples inside a pastry case, with the occasional addition of cider and onions, this dish is still cooked nowadays! If you prefer something sweeter, why not try Cambridge pudding, a dough of flour with chopped dried fruit, suet, cream, rosewater, yeast and egg, all served with butter and sugar.
If you live in Cambridge or just visiting, you cannot miss out on the views from the top of St Mary’s Tower, it’s a good leg workout to get the top, but so worth it! Or maybe shopping is more of your cup of tea, if so, check out The Grand Arcade, with two floors of all your favourite brands!
